"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." 1 Corinthians 15:26
The power of this Scripture is awesome when you consider the list of foes that must be destroyed prior to the finishing off of death. Death has not authority without sin and our sinful nature. So in order to destroy death God must first destroy the causes of death. But the neat thing is that God has to go beyond sin, death and our sinful nature to also destroy such enemies to righteousness as sorrow, pain, suffering, temptations, and of course the Tempter himself Satan.
Do you realize the authority and power God had to display through Jesus in order to righteously bring about the defeat and ultimate death of sin? He could just wave His hands and make it so. No, by doing so He would have not brought about a righteous ending to His foe. God knew that the only righteous way to end death and the power of sin was to pay the debt created by sin, bring reconciliation through a new life given in place of the old and to finish the possibility of influence of sin. He accomplished all of these things through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus.
God's gift to you was meant to do two wonderful things. First, His gift of grace once it is accepted saves one forever through the life in Jesus. Second, this gift was meant to be provided to others through our witness of the wonder done in the one saved.
Today, we can rejoice in the mercies of God and rest in His Will. May the Lord keep you this day in peace.
